Background
Saltwater Bakery + Provisions is an exciting newly opened craft bakery and food hub located in Cow Bay, Prince Rupert B.C. The business is a venture of Gitxaala Enterprises, the proud business arm of the Gitxaala Nation. Saltwater Bakery has quickly become a vibrant community hub and we are looking to ramp up production to keep up to demand with a second baker.
Qualifications/Requirements
The Craft Baker must have experience in all aspects of craft bread and pastry production from scratch ingredients. To qualify for this position you must be legal to work in Canada, and have one of the following qualifications:
• Red Seal Baker qualification or equivalent from another country.
• Completion of a certificate course at a recognized baking school.
• Minimum 2 years hands on experience in a similar craft bakery.
Job Description
You will work alongside the baking team throughout all aspects of craft bakery production, with a focus on craft breads and laminated pastries. Product selection will be expanded into other areas of baked goods as production capacity increases.
Bakery work involves early mornings, and production is dependent on punctuality and strong time management and prioritization skills. Bakers need to be observant and detail oriented, recipes need to be accurately followed, and basic arithmetic skills are essential.
Workplace safety and food safety are paramount. The work of a baker involves both heavy lifting and repetitive motions, and you must be able to clearly demonstrate how to safely accomplish these tasks. You will be trained on how to safely operate all bakery equipment and tools, which must be strictly followed at all times. Food Safe procedures will be trained and must be adhered to, and the facility is to be kept at a high degree of cleanliness at all times.
A Red Seal apprenticeship is an option for the right candidate without that qualification.
Compensation: negotiable dependent on experience.
